Create involvement and commitment. Not just more emails.

As we have mentioned elsewhere, there is a profound difference between engagement and communication. One online dictionary defines them like this:

CommunicationThe imparting or exchanging of information by speaking, writing, or using some other medium
EngagementAn emotional involvement or commitment

Surely, every organisation wants to build an emotional involvement or commitment from everyone they interact with - customers, clients, suppliers, employees, shareholders plus a range of other important stakeholders and yet they continue to rely on a tried and tested "comms approach" to interact with these people.

But is it possible simply to adapt your existing communications approach and create an engagement strategy?

We don't think so. There are so many things to consider when creating a contemporary engagement strategy - we think that if you are creating a new strategy, you should take the time to do it properly.
