If you are a regular Untypical Thoughts reader (or podcast listener), you will have discovered that one of my all-time heroes is Albert Einstein. For many, he was seen as being the ultimate 20th Century physicist with his famous equation E = mc2. For others, he was a philosopher like no other. For me, having been fortunate enough to have studied Physics at university, he lands somewhere in between.
During my late teenage years, I had a poster on my wall directly above my desk that had his image and some wise words printed on them – those words were Imagination is more important than Knowledge. As we now consider how businesses need to transform into a post-COVID-19 world, I don’t think that there has been a time in my life where the great man’s words have ever been so accurate.
Unlike many crises in our lifetime, this world health emergency has literally touched all businesses, one way or another – arguably the last time we saw this level of forced disruption was during the Second World War. Every one of our customers has been affected. Every one of our employees has been affected. Every one of our shareholders has been affected. Every one of our suppliers has been affected. So with that in mind, we need to look at what the world looks like after we return to some level of normality.
Without doubt, every business will need to change it operates. For some smaller businesses, the change might be less impactful on what they did before – maybe a cafe will now offer take-home meals as well as meals consumed on site. For other businesses – maybe yours – you will need to undertake a transformation, not just a change. If you look back to my thoughts from March 2020, you’ll see that when I speak of transformation, I am talking about so much more than just a big change.
These are two critical concepts – imagination and transformation. And where they intersect … we call that TransformaginationTM.
Transformagination is a mindset. Transformagination brings transformation without limits. Transformagination changes everything. Transformagination takes real courage. Transformagination introduces REAL disruption … where disruption is a thing and not just a new buzzword. Transformagination requires clear and deliberate action. Transformagination requires you to let go of the pool ladder and start swimming.
